Ira Eddy family papers, 1823-1983 (bulk 1823-1851)

Eclectic collection of family correspondence and genealogical material regarding the Eddy, Scott and Good families. Includes letter (1823) from E.S. Eddy to Jonas Eddy of Gallipoli, Ohio; and letters (1838-1843) to Rev. Ira Eddy (Ira's grandfather) from Nathan Eddy, William Waddell and James Eddy which document the day-to-day activities of the families. Of particular importance is two letters written by Safford B. Eddy (1846) while serving in the Mexican War as General Gideon Pillow's chief clerk. His letters were written from Camargo, Mexico, and Camp Patterson on the Rio Grande. He writes about his journey to Mexico, the weather, animals, and army operations in the field. There is also information regarding the Eddy family genealogy, the Eddy Family Association, and limited information on the Scott and Good families. There is also a tribute poem, written in 1851, to Safford Eddy.
